Angels Embrace: Why Families Caring for Someone With Dementia or Parkinson's Need More Than Information, Dementia and Parkinson's care at home

Angels Embrace is a free support group for individuals and families affected by Dementia or Parkinson's disease, offered in both in-person and virtual formats. It combines peer connection, caregiver education, and access to clinical insight from nurse and Care Professional facilitators, built on the understanding that families managing these diagnoses need more than articles and checklists; they need a place to be understood by people living something similar.

    Why Information Alone Isn't Enough

Every article on this hub, including this one, exists because information genuinely helps. But information alone doesn't sit with you at two in the morning when a loved one is agitated, and it doesn't know what it actually feels like to grieve someone who's still physically present. That's the specific gap peer support fills that no guide, however thorough, ever fully can.

    What Angels Embrace Actually Offers

    Peer connection

The chance to talk with other people genuinely living a version of what you're living, not as an abstraction, but as people in the room (or on the call) who understand without needing the backstory explained.

    Clinical insight from nurse facilitators

Sessions are facilitated with input from nurses and Care Professionals experienced in Dementia and Parkinson's care specifically, so questions that come up in conversation can be met with real clinical grounding, not just shared experience alone.

    In-person and virtual formats

Both formats are available, so families further from a physical meeting location, or simply unable to leave home easily, can still participate fully.

What a Typical Session Looks Like

Sessions typically combine open conversation and shared problem-solving with space for whatever a given group most needs on a given day, sometimes that's practical strategy- sharing, sometimes it's simply the chance to say something out loud that's been hard to say anywhere else.

Why Shared Problem-Solving Works Where Solo Research Doesn't

A family navigating a specific, unusual challenge, a particular medication side effect, a specific behavioral pattern, a difficult family dynamic around care decisions, often finds that someone else in the group has faced something remarkably similar, with practical ideas that no general guide would think to include.

Grief, Burnout and the Parts of Caregiving Nobody Prepares You For

Caregiving for someone with Dementia or Parkinson's carries a specific, often unacknowledged form of grief, grieving someone who is still here, while simultaneously providing their care. Angels Embrace exists in part to give that experience somewhere to be spoken aloud among people who understand it without explanation.

    How to Join

Angels Embrace grew out of more than two decades of Angels on Call Homecare hearing the same thing from families: that even the best information doesn't replace sitting in a room with people who understand exactly what you're carrying. Families who feel like they're carrying this alone are welcome at the next session, in person or virtually, no cost, no long-term commitment required. Contact Angels on Call Homecare to learn more about joining.

If you're experiencing significant distress, the Alzheimer's Association's 24/7 Helpline (800- 272-3900) is available for immediate support alongside, not instead of, ongoing group participation.

This article is educational and does not replace medical advice. Always consult the treating physician or care team about symptoms, medications, and changes in condition.
